How do I book a room at Academy Hotel?

Book here on our own site. Availability, room capacity and rates come straight from the hotel's booking system for the dates and party you enter, and the complete total is shown before you pay — no hidden fees, no agency in the middle.

What do I get by booking direct?

Accepted Answer

Early check-in at 14:00 and late check-out at 13:00 are included automatically — 20 € each otherwise, so up to 40 € saved. Prices come from the hotel's own system, your questions reach the house itself, and there is assistance around the clock during your stay.

How far ahead can I book?

Accepted Answer

Up to ten months ahead. If your dates fall beyond that window, email us and we'll tell you when they open.

Question 4

Do children cost extra, and are there extra beds?

Accepted Answer

Children have no separate price — they count towards the room's guest number. A Standard room takes two adults and one child, a Superior four adults and up to three children, and a Family room 5–9 guests. Standard and Superior rooms have no extra beds, but a travel cot and other supplies are available on request.

Do you take groups, meetings and company bookings?

Yes. The restaurant hall doubles as the house's meeting space, booked in advance through sales@insidervisit.com — the rental includes technical equipment, Wi-Fi, furniture and parking, and catering is priced per group. Company customers can be invoiced in advance.

When and how do I pay?

Nothing is charged while you browse. Your room and any extras are paid at the end of the booking on a secure payment page, and the full total is shown before you get there. Prices are in euros and include VAT. At the hotel itself, cash in euros is accepted.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms depend on the rate you choose. The exact terms for your rate are shown in the summary before you pay and repeated in your confirmation — read them there, because a cheaper non-refundable rate and a flexible one are not the same deal. Note that the general 14-day statutory cancellation right does not apply to accommodation booked for specific dates.

Can I change my dates or cancel?

Email info@academyhotel.com as soon as your plans change and we'll work it out — we reply within one business day. What is possible depends on the cancellation terms of the rate you booked.

Question 9

Are experiences paid together with the room?

Accepted Answer

No. The card is charged for your room and extras only. Experiences booked alongside your stay are confirmed and paid separately afterwards, so their prices are shown as advisory during the booking.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in starts at 16:00 and check-out is by 11:00. Early check-in from 14:00 and late check-out until 13:00 each cost 20 € and depend on availability — and both are included free when you book direct on this site.

How does self check-in work?

Accepted Answer

Arrival instructions and your code are emailed to the address on the booking. At the main door there is a code reader: enter your code, walk to the key automat inside and enter the same code, and it hands you your room key. On departure the key goes back into the automat with the same code.

Can I arrive late at night?

Yes. Your code works whatever the hour, so there is no arrival window to make — the main entrance is the self check-in entrance. If a code, the automat or anything else misbehaves, our phone line answers around the clock.

Where do I park?

In the hotel's own yard, free and without pre-booking. An engine-heating post costs 10 € a day. There are no EV chargers at the hotel — the nearest are about 200 m away in the Tokmanni and K-Market yards.

Can I leave my luggage before check-in or after check-out?

Accepted Answer

Yes — luggage storage is arranged through reception, both before your room is ready and after you check out.

Can you arrange a transfer, a taxi or a rental car?

Accepted Answer

Airport transfers, car rental and warm winter clothing rental are all bookable through the hotel — one message is enough. A taxi is booked from the local Kemijärvi taxi number, which we'll give you. The nearest airport is Rovaniemi.

Which room type suits us?

Accepted Answer

A Standard room is 22 m² for two (plus one child). A Superior room is 40 m² for up to four. A Family room is 65–80 m² for 5–9 guests and has its own full kitchen with a dishwasher. Every room has a private shower and toilet, free Wi-Fi and keyless entry.

Is there a television in the room?

No, and that is on purpose. The house is built for switching off and for Lapland's quiet — evenings happen in the shared kitchens and the sauna rather than in front of a screen.

Is there a lift?

Accepted Answer

No — the 1960 dormitory building has stairs only. Ground-floor room 105 is fully accessible, with no thresholds and a spacious shower and toilet room. Mention accessibility needs when booking and we'll place you there.

Is the room cleaned daily?

Accepted Answer

No. Rooms are not serviced during short stays — on stays of six nights or more, a mid-stay clean is included halfway through your stay.

Can I bring my dog?

Accepted Answer

Pets are welcome in rooms 101 and 102 for a 25 € fee — choose one of those rooms when booking. An unregistered pet in any other room carries a 200 € cleaning charge.

What happens if I lose my room key?

Accepted Answer

A lost key means the door lock is renewed, which carries a 300 € charge. Most stays use the keyless entry code, which can't be lost.

What are the house rules?

The house is strictly smoke-free indoors — smoking carries a 500 € cleaning charge. Quiet hours are 22:00–07:00 and parties are not permitted. Shoes come off when you enter your room, and only registered guests may stay in the accommodation.

Can I adjust the heating in my room?

Yes — every room has water-circulation radiators you can turn up or down. The ventilation runs house-wide and isn't guest-adjustable.

Is breakfast included?

In the winter season (November–March) breakfast is served daily 07:00–10:00 and is included in every room rate. It is served in the neighbouring building, a three-minute walk of about 200 m. Leaving before it opens? A takeaway breakfast is packed when ordered the day before.

When is the sauna open?

The cellar sauna has free public evening sessions daily: women 19:00–20:00, men 20:00–21:00. You can also book the sauna privately for 50 € an hour.

Where can we cook meals?

Every floor has a fully equipped shared kitchen — stoves, ovens, cookware and dining tables. Your room has a refrigerator and a kettle for the basics.

Gluten-free, lactose-free, dairy-free and vegan diets are always accommodated. Tell us when you book so the kitchen knows in advance.

Is there a laundry machine?

Yes — a guest laundry machine, free to use. In winter there are also free sledges and sliders for anyone who wants them.
